Pediatric Surgery is a subspecialty of surgery which encompasses surgery of infants, fetuses, children, adolescents and young adults. This kind of surgery is usually done in children hospitals. Pediatric surgery also has subspecialties- fetal surgery and neonatal surgery.
Some of the common pediatric diseases which require surgery are:
- Congenital Malformations such as intestinal atresia, pyloric stenosis, undescended testes, imperforate anus, intestinal malrotation, necrotizing enterocolitis, cleft lip, espphageal atresia, Hirschsprung’s disease, etc.

What is a pediatric surgeon ?

A pediatric surgeon has all necessary qualification and experience to do pediatric surgery. Surgical problems handled by pediatric surgeons are not similar to those which are handled and seen by general surgeons. For pediatric surgery there is need for specialized training.
